Master's programme

MSc. in Computer Science: structure, specialisations and admission requirements.

The MSc in Computer Science is a two-year evening programme spread over four semesters. Students specialise in Software and Systems Security or Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Admission requirements

To qualify, a candidate must meet Makerere University's general entry requirements for master's degrees and hold either:

  1. A minimum of Second Class (lower division) undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
  2. A minimum of Second Class (lower division) postgraduate diploma in a related field from a recognised institution.

Candidates from closely related fields should have completed core Computer Science courses including compiler design, automata and complexity, object-oriented programming, data structures, computer architecture, and relevant mathematics.

Programme plans

  • Plan A: coursework, research and dissertation writing, plus Seminar Series; minimum graduation load of 62 credit units.
  • Plan B: coursework followed by project development; minimum graduation load of 68 credit units.
