Undergraduate programme

BSc. in Computer Science: duration, fees and entry requirements.

The BSc in Computer Science is a full-time programme conducted both in the day and in the evening. It lasts three academic years, consisting of six semesters and two recess terms. Each semester lasts seventeen weeks, including two weeks for examinations, while each recess term lasts ten weeks.

Admission requirements

Candidates must satisfy Makerere University's general admission requirements in addition to the following:

Direct entry

  • At least a principal pass in Mathematics in UACE or its equivalent.
  • At least two principal passes at the same sitting in UACE in Economics, Entrepreneurship, Geography, Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
  • A minimum weighted point set by the Makerere University Admissions Board.

A-level weighting

Diploma holders

  1. At least 5 passes at the same sitting of UCE or its equivalent, with credits in English and Mathematics.
  2. At least 1 principal pass and 2 subsidiary passes from the same sitting of UACE or its equivalent.
  3. A Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology of Makerere University, or at least a Second Class (lower division) diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, and Statistics, or another diploma with Mathematics, Computer Science or Information Technology as one of the subjects. The diploma must be from an institution recognised by the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda.

Degree holders

Degree-holder admission is also published by the department under the BSc. Computer Science entry schemes. Applicants should check the current departmental and Makerere University requirements for this route before applying.
