CECAP Masters Scholarship
A supplementary research grant for a Makerere Computer Science master’s student completing a thesis on automated diagnosis of malaria.
About the scholarship
Makerere University’s Directorate of Research and Graduate Training invited applications for a supplementary master’s research grant under the Consolidated Early Career Academics Program (CECAP). The call was published on 26 October 2022 and coordinated by project lead Dr Rose Nakasi.
The grant was intended to help one Computer Science master’s student complete a high-quality thesis and publish the resulting dissertation research in a peer-reviewed journal. Only research projects focused on automated diagnosis of malaria were considered.
This is an archived scholarship call. The application deadline was 1 November 2022 at 11:00 p.m. East Africa Time and applications are closed.
Eligibility
Applicants had to:
- be registered at master’s level in Makerere University’s Department of Computer Science;
- have completed the coursework year and be ready to begin the second year of the programme;
- be making normal academic progress;
- be prepared to complete the master’s programme, including a publication, within one year; and
- propose research focused on automated diagnosis of malaria.
Students who already had funding for their research were not eligible to apply.
What the scholarship covered
The scholarship covered research costs and tuition fees for one year at Makerere University, up to USD 2,500, for one student. Funding was administered in accordance with the official CECAP scholarship arrangements.
