About the 2021/22 call
DeepMind funded the establishment of four scholarships in machine learning for students beginning Makerere University’s MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science track in the 2021/22 academic year.
The scholarships were open to students from Uganda, other East African countries and other Sub-Saharan African countries.
What the scholarship covered
- full tuition fees;
- a stipend for living expenses;
- a laptop;
- medical insurance;
- travel to Makerere University for international students; and
- artificial intelligence conference participation and mentorship.
Eligibility
Applicants first needed admission, or proof of application for admission, to Makerere University’s MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science track.
Applications
The original scholarship deadline was 30 June 2021 at 11:00 p.m. EAT. Applications were briefly reopened until 10 January 2022 because of disruption during the preceding six months.
